The Recent History of the Order
After the Magical Cataclysm, most magi shunned contact with other wizards. Order broke down. Red caps now do not visit any of the remaining covenants. Tribunals are a thing of memory. The customs set forth in the Oath of Hermes are paid lip service. The various houses are shells of themselves. The great Domus Magni have been torn asunder and their secrets lost.
Some enterprising magi have attempted to create covenants outside of magical auras; within cities or even within divine or faerie auras.
Fear of such an event occurring again has created a superstition that magi should not congregate in groups greater than four. This has led to more hermit and itinerant magi. That being said, there is still strength in numbers. And where magi congregate, there is hope for a rebirth of the Order as it once was before.
